UPCOMING at the New York Botanical Garden
in February
There's always something at the New York Botanical Garden that captures my attention. Two things in February, and both in the same week, will have me on the road on Tuesday, 11 February and Thursday, 13 February.
Up first is an exclusive Media Preview on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, for The Orchid Show: Mexican Modernism, the 22nd edition of NYBG’s annual celebration of all things orchid.
Your turn will come, February 15 through April 27, 2025. The New York Botanical Garden suggests that you allow them to transport you via the 22nd edition of The Orchid Show to the vibrant setting of Mexico—without ever leaving the Bronx! Experience a breathtaking display of orchids in settings inspired by the bold, multicolored designs of architect Luis Barragán in the Haupt Conservatory. View a photography exhibit by Martirene Alcántara in Ross Gallery.
Tickets for The Orchid Show: Mexican Modernism at the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) are now already on sale. For more information and to purchase tickets go to https://www.nybg.org/visit/admission/
The New York Botanical Garden's 25th Annual Winter Lecture Series will feature renown speakers each making a special presentation. The lecture series will take place in the Botanical Garden’s Arthur and Janet Ross Lecture Hall. Bunny Williams will present Life in the Garden on January 23; Jacqueline van der Kloet will present The Art of Planting Bulbs on February 13; and Cassie Banning will present Three Gardens on the Coast of Maine on March 27.
It is the February event with Jacqueline van der Kloet that easily captures my attention. Why? Because back in July 2024 I reviewed her book, Growing Bulbs in the Natural Garden here on BelleWood Gardens.
Renowned naturalistic garden designer Jacqueline van der Kloet—who has assisted in the planting design
of some of the most prestigious public gardens in the world—masters a casual, magical technique where
bulbs emerge among other plants as if dancing freely among the perennials and grasses.
Registration and Additional Information: Each lecture: $35/$39 (NYBG Member/Non-Member); the series: $85/$95 (NYBG Member/Non-Member)
Registrants can present their registration confirmation to receive a complimentary beverage with a food purchase at either NYBG’s Pine Tree Café on January 23, 2025, or the Hudson Garden Grill on February 13 and March 27, 2025.
