Barbecue at the Quakertown Volunteer Fire Company
Saturday, 26 January 2025

Here's a screen saver of the Quakertown fire company volunteers.

Volunteer fire companies here in New Jersey (and across the river in Pennsylvania too) have several ways of raising money. One of the most popular - food. Some do pancake breakfasts, spaghetti dinners, fish and chips . . . Quakertown volunteer fire company does barbecue. A couple of times in the winter, again in the summer, another in October. We've been coming for years.

I get to the fire station about 20 minutes before the scheduled pickup time for my order.
The grill masters tease me, I'm too late for the ribs on the grill. They've been shuttled
up to the kitchen where orders will be packed up. It's just the quicker cooking wings that

are still on the grill. And even they are being transferred into tubs, covered with foil and

then hurried up to the kitchen before they cool down. Some items, reminders of the earlier work

a container of their special chix rub seasoning
that gets brushed onto the multitudinous wings.

A burn barrel around which the men could warm up
before the charcoal for the grills was well alight.

Up at the fire house a sign directs the steady flow of eager customers.

Pre-orders make things simple for everyone. Check in, confirm order, if not
pre-paid hand over credit card or cash. Not sure about Venmo but probably.

Busy in the kitchen orders are packed up - ribs, wings, sides.

Rack of ribs is divided up. Some want a half. We want whole.

Order a half, a whole rack of ribs, chicken wings, a party pack . . .

Which conveniently comes in two pieces.

I easily separate the individual ribs. We'll plate them up and
enjoy, wet and dry paper towels at hand to clean our fingers.

Coleslaw, beans with bacon for the sides. Extra, leftover ribs for a second meal.

Look good? You bet! And there's another opportunity coming right up on Superbowl Sunday.

I've placed our pre-order for a whole rack of ribs. Comes with sides of coleslaw and baked beans.
Also a beverage but I generally pass on the bottled water / cans of soda. We have beer at home.
Interested? Then email the fire company at bbq@quakertownfire.com for their Superbowl barbecue.
