Coming Soon: Georgia O'Keeffe's Hawai'i
at the New York Botanical Garden

Friday, 11 May 2018

Hawai'i is very much in the news right now. Images of explosively erupting lava consuming houses and gardens. A more peaceful display is soon coming to the New York Botanical Garden when Georgia O'Keeffe: Visions of Hawai'i opens at the New York Botanical Garden on May 19th.

I think of New Mexico as the source for her stunning paintings of flowers and plants. But in 1939 she had a nine-week sojourn in Hawai'i while on commission to produce images for a Hawaiian Pineapple Company promotional campaign. Rather than a volcano there will be a lush exhibition of Hawaiian flora in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory and a stunning display in the LuEsther T. Mertz Library Art Gallery that includes more than 15 of O'Keeffe's Hawai'i paintings.

This should be a splendid visit, without volcanoes.
The exhibition will run from May 19 until October 28
I'll have more to share after the press preview.
